- Abstract
- Special Protection Areas (SPAs) are strictly protected sites classified in accordance with Article 4 of the EC Birds Directive and the Environment (Wales) Act 2016. This dataset includes only the upland SPAs, as lowland SPAs were not seen as threatened by woodland creation. The 500m buffer reflects the needs of raptors hunting outside the upland SPA area, as they also use the upland fringe and ffridd for hunting. Planting within the upland SPA buffer area may reduce the hunting range for raptors and provide cover for predators. Not all proposals in the area will require amending but advice from NRW must be sought. See GN002 for more details.
